PACIFIC COASTER -- This little narrow guage locomotive was the first on the line which began with a horse drawn railroad and became the Pacific Coast Company which had both rail and marine interests. At one time the railway ran from a wharf at Point San Luis to San Luis Obispo and then south through the coastal valley to Arroyo Grande, Nipomo and Los Alamos to Los Olivos. Its last rails were taken up during the World War II search for scrap iron. The story is intrestingly told in detail in Ships And Narrow Gauge Rails, by Gerald M. Best.
